He is one of the very few people in Kibera who is trying to improve the lives of the inhabitants of Africa's largest slums. Kibera is 6 km from the center of Nairobi. Earlier, colonial army soldiers and migrant workers settled here. Then - everyone who arrived in the capital in search of a better life. The government has repeatedly made attempts to resettle slums, but to this day they are only growing. Despite the million Kenyans living today in Kibera, there is still no electricity, running water, almost no schools and hospitals, and most families live on a dollar a day.
Pastor Alfred opened his own school here for children from the poorest families, whose top priority is to teach children to read, write and believe in God, but also to simply feed the students with ugali, corn porridge on the water for the second time in a day.
The pastor was born here. His father was killed here when Alfred was still a child. And he resolved to devote his life to serving the people of Kibera.
School format
Unexpected for the school in its usual sense. Pastor Alfred’s school is a hut of 7x8 meters, without windows, conditionally divided into three classes. The school has 50 students. Volunteers - a lot more.
