Antipa Pishoi School in Kibera

School for poor children in the slum area of Dagoretti (Kibera)
About 150 thousand children in Kenya are infected with HIV. 60 thousand need antiretroviral therapy, but only one third of the children receive treatment.
So 40 thousand children, who do not have access to treatment, will die soon.

What it is

This is a school for poor children in the slum area of Dagoretti (Kibera). Compared to others this school looks like a real one. We were extremely impressed by the fact that children really study here. When we came to the school, boys and girls were writing some kind of control tests and the level of assignments, in our opinion, was quite consistent with the class.

Earlier, when the school was located in the other building, there were more students here. But the old building was demolished when the construction of the expressway to Uganda through Kibera began. And Father Antipa’s school had to move to another place.

The new building is cramped. Several classes study together in one room, but the teachers try to keep a high level of education.

The number of students has decreased recently, because many people lost their jobs due to the pandemic and life even in the slums became too expensive. Families had to move to some other place where life is cheaper. Now there are 130 students in Father Antipa's school.

Why we trust Antipa Pishoi

We are personally acquainted with Antipa Pishoi. He is intelligent, competent and nice to talk to. He is one of a few people in Kibera who have been to Moscow. Father Antipa is a great opponent of the Russian-Ukrainian strife.
